"THE “ROADMAP TO PEACE” IS THE ROAD TO DEVASTATION"

Dr. John B. Howarth

January 25, 2008

Last week, the US President, George W. Bush, embarked on an eight day, whirl-wind trip to the Middle East. In Israel, he met with Jewish and Arab leaders, pushing them to  start negotiations that would lead to the so-called “Two State Solution” for the ongoing Arab-Israeli Conflict.

Christians United For Israel-Canada, is opposed to this so-called Solution and Roadmap, because we are convinced that such a road would lead to an impractical, illegal, unworkable, and unbiblical situation.

The “Roadmap” calls for Israel to give up more “land for peace”, a policy and practice that has never produced real peace, and it never will.

Look what is happening everyday, as the Arabs go in and out of what is now Egypt, after the Israelis gave back the Sinai to Egypt: weapons, rockets, small arms, are pouring into Gaza to be used against innocent Israelis; 100 million dollars for terrorism were recently brought in to Gaza, from the Sinai, as people returned from their Haj pilgrimages to Mecca.

The anarchy and devastation in Gaza itself, and the thousands of rockets that have been fired into Israeli towns and cities since Israel “disengaged” from there in 2005, are testimony to what will happen elsewhere in the country.

For Israel to divide the Eternal City of  God, and give up half of  Jerusalem to the Arabs, would be suicidal—can you imagine rockets being fired into the centre of Toronto from the suburbs of Pickering, or Thornhill, or Etobicoke?? That’s what is happening from Gaza into Sderot and Ashkelon every day, and will happen from “East Jerusalem” into “West Jerusalem”. Can you imagine a full-scale Hamas-Fatah military machine governing  the Mount of Olives, and firing into Jerusalem?

And then the Arabs and the rest of the world will demand that Israel “disengage” completely fro The Golan Heights, and give it back to Syria “for the sake of peace”. And that would be a suicidal move as well, as Israel would lose half of its access to the Sea of Galilee, its only resource for drinkable fresh water. As well, the whole Galilee Region would again, as in the 1960s and 1970s, come under direct fire onto its towns and villages and cities from Syrian guns above them.

The Arabs will not be satisfied with any land that Israel would give up, until they have fulfilled their PLO, PA, and Hamas charters, of “pushing Israel and the Jews into the sea”!

All of these parts of the Land of Israel, were promised and given to the Israelites as far back as Genesis 12. These Lands are part of God’s eternal, everlasting Covenant with His Chosen People, starting with Abraham.

And these parts of the Land of Israel--specifically Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria—were won by Israel as a result of being attacked by the Arab League countries of Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt, from 1948 through to 1973!

As evangelical Christians, we plead with the Government of Israel to stop following this “Roadmap”—it will only lead to the devastation of Israel. And as citizens of Canada, we plead with our Canadian Government to consistently stand in support of Israel, and for Prime Minister Stephen Harper to counsel and encourage Prime Minister Olmert to stop
going down the road to devastation.
