The Government of Israel, through the Israeli Consul General in Toronto, Mr. Amir Gissin, has asked Christians United For Israel-Canada to partner with them in bringing some of the Dead Sea Scrolls to Toronto! The exhibit will be held at the Royal Ontario Museum, and is scheduled for June 27, 2009 – January 3, 2010.

The Israel Antiquities Authority, which is responsible for the Scrolls, has recently started a “Friends In Canada” chapter. Their website is ww.iaafriendsincanada.org. We would encourage you to go to the website, and follow the link to “Friends of the IAA”.

The Dead Sea Scrolls verify the foundational truth that the Hebrew Bible/Christian Old Testament has been miraculously and accurately preserved and passed down over the past 3,400 years. And the Scrolls give us an exceptional picture of what the Second Temple culture and religion were like during the time of Jesus.

Because of these crucial parallels between Judaism and Christianity, the Dead Sea Scrolls are an excellent bridge between our two communities, with the ability to build understanding and mutual support between us.

ISRAEL AND MIDDLE EAST NEWS:
Pro-Western Bloc Defeats Hizbullah in Lebanese Election
The Western-backed March 14 bloc appeared to have retained its parliamentary majority in Lebanon's closely fought election in the face of a strong challenge by the Hizbullah-led opposition, according to preliminary results. Lebanese television predicted that March 14 had won 70 seats in the 128-seat parliament. "We've lost the election," a source close to the opposition told Reuters. IAEA: Iran Nuclear Program Advancing, Uranium Found in Damascus Lab
Iran has significantly boosted its supply and output of reactor-grade nuclear material, according to a quarterly report issued Friday by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN's arms control division. The report says Iran has increased its supply of low-enriched uranium during the last three months by 30%, to nearly 3,000 pounds, and is now feeding uranium gas into about 5,000 high-speed centrifuges, up 25% since February. It also has an additional 2,000 centrifuges spinning in preparation for being fed uranium gas to turn into nuclear material. Meanwhile, in Syria, international inspectors reported finding unexplained particles of modified uranium at a lab in Damascus. The particles "are of a type not included in Syria's declared inventory of nuclear material," the report says. Obama Visits Buchenwald, Calls for Arab States to Open Ties with Israel
President Obama Friday called on Arab states to show willingness to set up diplomatic and commercial ties with Israel in return for "tough commitments" from the Jewish state, ahead of a poignant visit to the former Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. "I will not forget about what I have seen here," the president said, referring to the ovens, barracks and barbed wire. "To this day there are those who insist that the Holocaust never happened, a denial of fact and truth that is baseless and ignorant and hateful." Obama told NBC News that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, should also visit the camp. "I have no patience for people who would deny history." “CANADIANS INSCRIBE THE BIBLE” PROJECT:

”In their own Language & in their own Hand”

The Government of Israel has chosen CUFI-Canada to sponsor and promote this International Bible Project, across Canada!

On Tuesday, December 16, 2008, a pivotal community project was launched, called “Canadians Inscribe The Bible”.

This “Inscribe The Bible Project” is being sponsored by Christians United For Israel-Canada, B’nai Brith Canada, and overseen by the Government of Israel’s Consulate General in Toronto.

The act of inscription will take place in such locations as schools, social forums, houses of worship, professional associations, social clubs, municipal and regional forums, and the like. Our Project Bus will be traveling to dozens of cities to enable people of all ages to inscribe their verse!

Each volunteer who will personally inscribe a Biblical verse in his/her own hand, will be named a Fellow of the Shrine of the Bible. Each individual inscriber will receive a certificate as a Fellow of the Shrine (House) of the Bible.

The Bible--the beginning of morality and civilization for Judaism and Christianity--is the cultural and ethical gift of the Jewish people to the world. Millions around the world identify with the Bible and its reflection on their spiritual life. The faith, history and stories that took place in the Holy Land stir the imagination of hundreds of millions throughout the entire world.

A group of prominent Israelis and other nationals laid the foundation for a very unique and ambitious project called "The Bible Valley” in the Holy Land. The motivation behind the initiative was two fold:

1. promoting cultural heritage, and

2. creating a bridge between monotheistic civilizations.

In their view the linkage between the Holy Land, the holy books and the peoples who share a common belief in them, is a source of affinity and cooperation, adding to tolerance and peace.

Bible lovers from all over the world and denomination will be invited to make a personal contribution to a Bible manuscript, in their respective language and in their own hand writing. Each title will be placed in the House of the Bible of the Bible Valley region as a testimony to our common heritage.

The Shrine of the Bible will be founded as a center of Biblical Studies, as well as a hub for cultural and educational initiatives, which seek to explore the relevance and impact of the Bible values on historical and contemporary human affairs. The staff of this new center will archive, manage, and display the hundreds of manuscripts and Bible volumes, written in many languages, illustrating the ubiquity of the Bible. Each sponsoring organization will be recognized and acknowledged alongside its own inscribed volume. The project encompasses both the Old Testament and the New Testament.

This will keep the Israeli politicians from dividing Jerusalem in an ill-fated giving of “land for peace”. Such a philosophy and practice has NEVER worked before, and will NEVER work in the future.

Also, please go to the website of “One Jerusalem”, and sign their ongoing petition to prevent the dividing of Jerusalem. Isn’t it interesting that Arabs living in East Jerusalem have been applying for Israeli citizenship in record numbers. If Jerusalem is divided, they will get to move into “Israel proper”.
